Tipuranga Team Newsletter
Term 1  2020
Haere Mai Whanau -  Welcome back! A big hello to our families especially to our new students, who have all had a great start. It is fabulous to see the smiles on the children's faces as they arrived at school after their break, eager to share their holiday stories with everyone. It is also pleasing to see that all of the children settled back into their learning so quickly and our new children are showing us they know what school is all about.

Teaching Team
This year we have Amanda Zambazos (Team Leader)  working in Room 7, Dan Minchin working in Room 6, Shinade Cousins working in Room 16 and Heidi Parker working in Room 17.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments regarding your child’s learning, please feel free to make a time to talk to your child’s classroom teacher.

Inquiry/Mana Aoturoa  - Healthy Me, Healthy You, Healthy Communities
At West End School our Inquiry is Learner driven and learner centred.
Learner driven is an opportunity for children to practice the inquiry process, with ‘wonderment’ and ‘creativity’
Learner centred is where explicit teaching takes place, and the process is practised using the term’s focus Curriculum area.
Room 16 and 17 join together in the mornings for Mana Aoturoa and Rooms 6 and 7 will join together in the afternoons.
This term we will also be having a specific focus through Health with a theme around Healthy Me, Healthy You, Healthy Communities.
If you have any of the following items that you are able to donate to our Exploration time we would greatly appreciate it. Please give to your child's classroom teacher.
- lego/building blocks/toy cars/clean clothes for dress ups/puppets/plastic animals (farm, zoo, dinosaur), fabric/buttons/ribbons/egg cartons.
Maths Focus
This term we will be focusing on developing basic number knowledge and place value knowledge. Our strand focus will be Statistics.
Reading
Reading at home is an important part of your child's learning. Set up a time where you and your child can sit down together and share books that you have chosen together. Read to your child and talk about the pictures and the story. Your child may bring home reading books. The books for reading at home are at a much easier level than the ones they will read with their teacher in class. This is so they can practice with you, without any stress and can enjoy immediate success.

Drink Bottle
Could all children bring a named water bottle to school as we don’t have water fountains due to hygiene. It is important for children to keep drinking throughout the day to help them with their learning.

Swimming
We will start our swimming from week 5. Closer to the time we will send out the swimming timetable for the classes.
As swimming is part of our PE curriculum, children are expected to swim during the weekly time their classroom
goes. Please send a note from the Doctor if your child is medically unable to swim that day—if unwell we expect they will be at home.
Just a reminder – the pool has asked that
  • All children with long hair have it tied up or in a swimming cap
  • Children are not to wear boxers under their togs.
  • Tog legs are to be above the knee and arms above the elbow.
  • Body suits are to be tight fitting not baggy.
  • Boys need to have lined togs.

Meet the Teacher
This is on Tuesday 11th February at 5:30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and find out more about the learning that will be occurring this year. Just a reminder if you wish to talk specifically to the teacher about your child you will need to make arrangements to do this at another time.
It is also a great opportunity to meet up with other families from the West End School Community. The PTA are providing a free sausage sizzle for everyone.
The Ice Cream Scoop truck will be here selling ice creams for $2.50/$5.00.

Assembly this term…….
‘The Vibe’ - this term as a school we are going to have three ‘assemblies’ called The Vibe hosted by each of the three Teams. Our Tipuranga Team’s turn to host will be Thursday 9th April at 9.05am. There are a few changes to the format, come along and see…..we’d love to see you there.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm around your child’s learning.
We truly appreciate your openness and partnership      Heidi, Dan, Amanda and Shinade
